Information for former Community Welfare students of Sterling College Pty Ltd (NSW)
The following information is only applicable for the Community Welfare students who were studying at Sterling College Pty Ltd (NSW) prior to the date of closure.
The ESOS Assurance Fund would like to advise that letters of offer for placement in a suitable alternative course have now been sent to all displaced Community Welfare students. If you have not yet received an offer, please contact us via email to: esos.sterling.claims@au.pwc.com.
Please return the form enclosed with your letter of offer to the ESOS Assurance Fund as soon as possible. You will also need to provide evidence of all payments made to Sterling College Pty Ltd. This will assist the ESOS Assurance Fund in determining the amount of tuition paid for at Sterling College but not received. If you do not have official Sterling College receipts, please provide copies of bank statements, bank cheques, credit card statements etc that show the payment.
The following Frequently Asked Questions have been updated to reflect some common queries raised since the letters of offer have been issued.
1. I have returned my form and associated documentation to the ESOS Assurance Fund. What is the process from here?
Once the student responses are collated, we will email all students who have accepted the offer to advise of the next steps from here. These steps will involve visiting your new provider to undertake Recognised Prior Learning testing and to obtain the formal letter of offer from your new provider.
2. The form included with the letter of offer requests evidence to support the payments made to Sterling College. Why is this required if I have accepted the offer? And what is appropriate evidence?
Evidence of the payments you have made to Sterling College is required to assist the Fund Manager in calculating the amount of tuition paid for but not received at Sterling College. Sufficient evidence includes the following:
- Receipts from Sterling College,
- Receipts from your agent that are NOT dated during the assessment period (ie. September 2009).
- Bank statements showing payments to Sterling College.
- Bank cheques or bank drafts showing payments to Sterling College.
- Credit card statements showing payments to Sterling College.
If you have not provided sufficient documentation, you will be contacted by the ESOS Assurance Fund and requested to submit further documentation. If you have provided some sufficient information, the calculation of your credit at your new provider will be based on the sufficient information provided.
3. I have received an offer for AICL, but I am concerned that AICL is not listed on the AIWCW website as an accredited provider.
Please be advised that the Diploma of Community Welfare offered by AICL was registered last week and as such, the AIWCW accreditation process is now underway. We have been advised that this process is being fast tracked to ensure that AICL will be recognised by AIWCW by the time you complete your studies.
The offer made by the ESOS Assurance Fund was a suitable alternative course as it will allow you to complete the same qualification in which you were enrolled at Sterling (ie. the Diploma of Community Welfare) at a comparable location and cost. It is important to note that if you decline the offer from the ESOS Assurance Fund, unless there are extenuating circumstances, you may not be entitled to apply for a refund.
4. My visa is due to expire shortly and I am concerned as I have not yet received a new Confirmation of Enrolment. What should I do?
We have been advised by DIAC that you should submit your visa extension application form, along with your old Sterling CoE and the letter of offer you received from the ESOS Assurance Fund. Once you are issued with a CoE by your new provider, please provide this to DIAC and you will be issued with a new visa. In the meantime, if your visa expires before you receive the new CoE, you will be on a bridging visa.
Please note: It is very important that you submit the visa extension application form before your visa actually expires.
5. Will the suitable alternative course differ from the course you were enrolled in at Sterling NSW?
No, all students will be offered a Diploma of Community Welfare.
6. Will the course be located in Sydney or interstate?
The offer will be at a provider located in Sydney.
7. I have received a transcript from ACPET, but it is not up to date. What can I do to arrange for it to be updated?
Unfortunately neither the ESOS Assurance Fund nor ACPET have the authority to update the transcripts issued by Sterling College. However, your new provider will undertake RPL testing and update your transcript if necessary and applicable.
8. I haven't received a copy of my transcript yet - who should I contact?
ACPET received copies of student transcripts that had been issued by Sterling College NSW. If you have not received a copy of your transcript, please contact ACPET via email to: student.email@acpet.edu.au. If a transcript was issued for you by Sterling College NSW, ACPET will be able to provide you with a copy.
